Hi and welcome to my website.

I am a freelance writer based in San Francisco. I write about Alternative Shelter, a term I use to describe surprising, unique, and innovative approaches to architecture and design. My favorite stories discuss how Alternative Shelter shapes the way people live.

My interest in Alternative Shelter began in 2002, when I lived in and renovated a 1906 Earthquake Cottage in San Francisco's Noe Valley neighborhood (see my About page for information on earthquake cottages). That was also when I fell in love with all things cottage. But despite my weakness for cottage style, I like to think that I can spot and appreciate good design across all architectural periods and styles.

I also love to travel and explore new places. I have a hard time staying put and I've come to terms with being called an urban nomad – especially since I find story ideas just about everywhere I go.

Thanks for visiting my website. Please read my articles and let me know if you have an Alternative Shelter of your own. I’d love to see it!
